Alameda Real Estate Homes For Sale
A little about Alameda
Alameda, California, lies across the bay from San Francisco, less than five miles from Oakland in the East Bay region. It is actually physically located on Alameda Island, in Alameda County, in the bay, with Bay Farm Island, which is adjacent to the Oakland International Airport, an additional part included in the city. The city is home to a total population of 72,259. There are many access points off the island, with three bridges to Oakland, a pedestrian/bicycle-only drawbridge that leads to Bay Farm Island, and two one-way tunnels that lead into Oakland's Chinatown. Additionally, there are AC Transit buses, including buses that run express to San Francisco, and two ferry services. The city is home of Alameda community college and Alameda Hospital.
The island is home to a number of beautiful old homes, with nearly 1,500 single-family houses of the Victorian style. Alameda is home to the official offices and training facility of the NFL's Oakland Raiders. Attractions here include Carlsbad State Beach, Crown Memorial State Beach and Shoreline Drive, and the USS Hornet aircraft carrier, a ship-turned-museum at a formal Naval station. The city celebrates a large Fourth of July parade, and is home to Alameda Theatre, Alameda Civic Ballet and its affiliate school, the Alameda Ballet Academy, and Alameda Civic Light Opera. There are almost 10 private schools as well as eight elementary schools, three middle schools and two high schools in the public-school system.
