A little about Fremont
The fourth most populous city in the San Francisco Bay Area, Fremont, California, is home to more than 200,000 residents in Alameda County, on the southern edge of the San Francisco Bay. The town was officially incorporated in 1956, when the five smaller communities of Centerville, Irvington, Mission San Jose, Niles and Warm Springs were combined. The city is home to one of the largest Afghani populations in the country, with a large number of refugees who have settled here. The city's school are included in the Fremont Unified School District, and include five high schools, five middle schools and 29 elementary schools. Fremont Christian School offers an alternative. The city is in the Ohlone Community College District and is home to the main campus of Ohlone College. The University of California, Berkeley has an extension campus here as well.
The California School for the Deaf, Fremont, is found here and serves Northern California students, and the California School for the Blind is here as well, serving students from across the state. Regional rail transportation is provided by BART and the Altamont Commuter Express. The Olive Hyde Art Gallery hosts seven gallery exhibits annually for those looking for local art. The town operates Central Park with Lake Elizabeth, and plans more than 200 summer camps for kids of all ages. Newpark Mall and the Freemont Hub Shopping Center provide retail outlets, and two hospitals can be found here, Washington Hospital Healthcare and Kaiser Fremont Medical Center.
