A little about Hayward

The sixth largest city in the San Francisco Bay Area, Hayward, California, is one of the larger suburbs of Oakland, with a population of more than 155,000. Hayward is situated on the eastern shores of San Francisco Bay in Alameda County. Because of its central location between San Francisco and Oakland, the city is often referred to as the Heart of the Bay. Amtrak provides daily service through Hayward, with connections between San Jose and Auburn. There are two BART rail system stations here to connect residents with nearby Bay Area cities, and AC Transit buses provide public transportation routes as well. The smaller Hayward Executive Airport is located here, in addition to the major international airports close by in Oakland and San Francisco.

The Hayward Unified School District runs here, with four high schools, five middle schools and more than half dozen elementary schools. Moreau Catholic High School is another option. The main campus of California State University, East Bay, is located in Hayward, as is Chabot College. The city celebrates a number of events throughout the year, such as the Hayward/Russell City Blues Festival, the Hayward Zucchini Festival, a rodeo in September, Veterans Day parade in November and Fourth of July celebration. Two golf courses, Skywest Golf Course and Hayward Golf Course, are in operation, while Southland Mall provides retail choices. The St Rose Hospital and Kaiser Medical Center offers medical services to those in the region.
