A little about Antioch

A suburb of San Francisco and Oakland located in Contra Costa County, Antioch, California, is a large city in the East Bay region with a population of more than 100,000. It is one of the oldest towns in the state, founded in 1850, and lies along the San Joaquin-Sacramento River Delta. The city is home to 31 parks that together cover more than 300 acres, as well as Contra Loma Regional Park, the Antioch/Oakley Regional Shoreline and Black Diamond Mines Regional Park, and just outside the city is Round Valley Regional Preserve. The city is served by both the Oakland and San Francisco airports, and offers access to the Antioch-Pittsburg Amtrak station, as well as the BART (Bay Area Rapid Transit) nearby in Pittsburg.

Cultural attractions here include El Campanil, host of symphony, theater, ballet and other acts, the Arts and Cultural Foundation of Antioch, the Antioch Historical Society Museum, the Lynn House Gallery, the Rivertown Art Center and for recreation, Antioch Family Water Park. The public school system includes three high schools, four middle schools, and six elementary schools, and there are also four private high schools and more than half a dozen private grade schools. Western Career College and Los Medanos College operate in town as well for post-secondary study. Construction, health care, finance and insurance, and education are the largest industries, and there are several shopping cneteres here, including County East Mall and Delta Fair Shopping Center.
