Just south of Pittsburg and the Suisun Bay, and about 30 miles east of Oakland, the town of Clayton, California, is a small Bay Area city, home to just over 10,000 residents. It is just over 4 square miles in size, and is home to approximately 400 acres of open space through its parks and recreation areas, which include the large Mt Diablo State Park. The town is located in Contra Costa County and offers majestic mountain views of Mt. Diablo. Finance, insurance, health care and professional services are the largest industries in which residents are employed, with the nearest hospital five miles away in Walnut Creek. The town is nine miles from the nearest BART local rail station, in Walnut Creek. The town is historic and likes to keep its heritage intact. The old DeMartini Winery, built in the 1880s, was renovated and is now the new City Hall, earning the town a number of preservation awards for its efforts. There is an Art and Wine Festival in the summer, Concerts in the Grove in the parks in warmer months, and smaller events like art shows, car shows and holiday festivities throughout the year.
