A little about Rodeo
A city with a total area of 7.4 square miles, Rodeo, California, is home to a population of around 9,000. The town is named for the livestock roundups that were a common occurrence here in the late 1800s. Rodeo is in Contra Costa County, just east of Carquinez Strait Regional Park and San Pablo Bay and about 25 miles northeast of San Francisco. There is a large oil refinery adjacent to the town operated by ConocoPhillips. Rodeo was the hometown of Hall of Fame Yankees pitcher Lefty Gomez, and the Lefty Gomez Ballfield Complex takes his name. This town is quite diverse, which adds vibrancy and variety to the offerings in town, from restaurants and shops to festivals and classes.
Foxboro Park offers residents a great open space in which to enjoy. Contra Costa County Library operates a Rodeo Branch here. Elementary students attend Hillcrest Elementary School in town and then continue their education at Carquinez Middle School and John Swett High School in nearby Crocket. Construction, finance, health care and insurance are the largest industries in Rodeo, with the nearest hospital five miles away in Vallejo. There are seven four-year schools and six two-year colleges located near Rodeo, and the nearest BART railway station, where passengers can connect with other cities in the area, is just nine miles away in Richmond.
