A little about San Francisco
The city of San Francisco, located in San Francisco County, is home to a population of around 800,000, making it one of the largest cities in California and the 14th most-populous city in the United States. The Bay city is recognized for such landmarks as its Golden Gate Bridge, Museum of Modern Art, the Haight-Ashbury neighborhood, Chinatown, Alcatraz Island and the cable cars. Visitors can reach the city via the San Francisco International Airport, just south of the city in San Mateo County, but under the jurisdiction of the City and County of San Francisco. The San Francisco Unified School District operates 34 preschools, 102 K-12 schools, eight county/court schools, and nine charter schools. There are endless things to do here, from visiting one of the 18 museums, checking out a 49ers football or Giants baseball game, exploring the bay area, visiting the zoo or symphony, opera, ballet, and much more. San Francisco has a popular Chinatown district, evolving from its large number of immigrants.
Tourism is a big industry, with the cit the fourth-most popular destination to visit in the United States. The City College of San Francisco and San Francisco State University are located here as well as the Academy of Sciences, the San Francisco Art Institute, the Academy of Art University, an extension of the Oakland-based California College of the Arts, the San Francisco Conservatory of Music and the California Culinary Academy. There are also a number of large and small colleges located within an easy distance of the city. There are more than 30 international financial institutions and six Fortune 500 companies in the city, as well as the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco and the Wells Fargo corporate headquarters. Public transportation is popular and convenient, with around one-third of commuters using some form of it to reach their destinations via the BART or other railways, buses, street and cable cars.
