A little about Daly City

A suburb of San Francisco just south of the city, Daly City, California, is home to more than 100,000 residents. It is located in in San Mateo County, and is a regional hub for retail, healthcare and small businesses and is San Mateo County’s largest city by population. The city is home of the Lake Merced Country Club and Mussel Rock Park, which lies right on the ocean. It is the home of the only wholly Karaite synagogue in the United States, Bnei Yisrael, and to the Cow Palace arena, host of the annual Grand National Rodeo, Horse & Stock Show. The Olympic Club golf course in Daly City will host the USGA U.S. Open in 2012, an event it has hosted four times previously. The town has two public indoor pools, Giammona Pool and Jefferson Pool. The Golden Gate National Recreation Area in the vicinity includes the city's Thornton Beach.

There are two shopping centers in the city, Serramonte Center and Westlake Shopping Center. Two public high schools, Westmoor High School and Jefferson High School, operate here as well as the Westlake School for the Performing Arts. There is a BART railway stop in the city connecting it with other local areas. Seton Medical Center is the city’s largest employer and has more than 1,500 employees. The next largest is Jefferson School District, with more than 1,400. The City of Daly City, Target, USPS and Cow Palace all employ over 500. There are six colleges or universities within a 10-mile radius of the city, and twelve more within a 50 miles.
