A little about Benicia

Situated just northeast of San Francisco, and east of San Pablo Bay, Benicia, California, is a historic old town with a population of just under 30,000 residents. The town is found on the north side of the Carquinez Strait in Solano County. Benicia is about 35 miles northeast of San Francisco and about 60 miles southwest of Sacramento. The town served as the state's capital for about a year in the 1850s, and still contains a historic feel about it, with many old buildings. The town is home to Benicia's Industrial Park, host to more than 600 businesses, which employ more than 7,000. The town is home to such annual events as the Torchlight Parade & Dance July 3, and the Picnic in the Park & Fireworks on July 4 to celebrate Independence Day, and the Benicia Peddler's Fair, which has been ongoing since 1963 and now has more than 300 vendors.

The town's location near the water gives it such locales as Benicia Marina, popular with sailors, and the Benicia Yacht Club. Benicia State Recreation Area can be enjoyed by all, as well as Benicia Capital State Historic Park. Four elementary, one middle and two high schools make up the public school district. The arts community here is vibrant, with such acts as the Benicia Old Town Theatre Group, ARTS Benicia Center Gallery, Benicia Community Arts and a few independent galleries.
