A little about Suisun
Right next to Travis Air Force Base and just north of Suisun Bay, where it derives it name, Suisun, California, is home to a poppulation of more than 25,000, a suburban town in Solano County. The town and bay are named for the Suisunes, a Native American tribe that used to inhabit the area. A number of parks and open areas are scattered about town, such as Montebello Vista Park, Samuel Geopp Park, Carl E Hall Park and Heritage Park, or Grizzly Island Wildlife Area, the Suisun Wildlife Center and the Joice Island St Game Refuge. The Heritage Shopping Center provides a number of retail options to explore, and the Lambrecht Sports Complex offers courts and fields in which to play. The Suisun/Fairfield Amtrak station offers residents easy access to connect with other cities.
Historical locations where residents can learn more about the area's history include the Western Railway Museum and the Travis Air Museum, located on the base. Nearby are many cultural attractions from which to choose, like the Harbor Conservatory Theater, the Solano College Theatre, the Solano Civic Ballet , the North Bay Opera and the Solano Winds Community Symphonic Band. In Suisun there are also a handful of art galleries run by local artists. The Suisun City Marina on the Suisun Channel was rebuilt in 1994 and provides direct access into San Francisco Bay.
